John J. Mowers, 63, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at his home.
John was born to Joseph and Eleanor (Solberg) Mowers on Oct. 21, 1944 in Robbinsdale, Minn., where he was raised and educated prior to moving with his family to Frazee. John graduated from Frazee High School in 1962. He attended business college in Minneapolis for a short time, until the death of his father. John returned to Frazee and subsequently attended Minnesota Technical College. John married Marie Rowland on Sept. 21, 1972 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes. After completing college, he worked for Rural Minnesota CEP as an accountant until retiring in 1982. During his retirement, he helped his wife Marie as a daycare provider.
John enjoyed collecting coins, reading, working on cars, playing pool and cards, and watching the Minnesota Vikings and Twins.
Surviving John are his wife of 35 years, Marie; two sons, Jason and Steven Mowers of Detroit Lakes; as well as one nephew. Preceding John in death were his parents and one brother, Stephen.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 24 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for noon Tuesday, March 25 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery.
