John W. "Jack" Fleming, 76, West Fargo, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008 in the Evergreens of Fargo. A memorial service was held on October 13, at West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo. Burial was at Crary Cemetery, Crary, N.D.
John Walter Fleming was born March 21, 1932 to Lloyd and Mabel (Dohmstreich) Fleming in Warwick, N.D. He graduated from Crary High School, Crary N.D. John served in the U.S. Navy and was a lifetime resident of North Dakota.
On August 1, 1955, he married Catherine Hager in Devils Lake, N.D. He farmed, owned a business and worked for Steiger / Case until retiring in 1997. He had a second career as the doorman at the West Fargo VFW for many years.
John was the past Post Commander of the West Fargo VFW Post #7564, he was very active in the union leadership while at Steiger and served as president of the machinist union - AFLCIO and he was involved with the Democratic Party, serving as chairman of District 13 and running for public office.
John is survived by his children, Robert (Desiree), Fargo, Cindy Fleming, Fargo, Michele (Jim) Parsons and Jennifer (Jeff Ramberg) Fleming, all of West Fargo; brother, Burton Fleming, Northfield, Minn.; ten grandchildren; special friends, Virginia Thoemke, West Fargo, Maynard and Donna Magnuson and family, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Bonnie Sayers, West Fargo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Raymond, Roger and Dale.
