A lifelong Cass County resident recently added his name to the June ballot for county commission.
Marty Johnson officially submitted his paperwork last week, and will be on the Cass County Commission ballot for District 5 during the June 12 elections.
Johnson lives on his great grandfather's farmstead south of Horace, which has been in his family for 120 years.
Johnson said the main reason he is running for a county commission seat is because he feels there hasn't been a rural voice on the commission for some time, and wants to be a spokesperson for all of Cass County; not just a small part of it.
"As I see it, we are hired to work for all of Cass County: we are the representatives of Cass County and we should listen to all residents ... because this is not just my county or your county," Johnson said. "We should all work together for the benefit of all county residents.
"With my rural background, my common-sense problem solving and my hard work ethic, I feel I would be a perfect fit for this job."
Johnson also noted that he would like all residents to vote in the primary and general election, in order to make sure their voices and votes count.
