Junior W. Hagemeister, 86, Ottertail, Minn. died Monday, January 4, 2010 at MeritCare Palliative Care, Fargo surrounded by family, brothers and sisters.
Junior Garland (Wesley) Hagemeister was born April 9, 1923 in Fargo, to Wesley and Goldie (Christinson) Hagemeister. He grew up in Absaraka, N.D. and attended Absaraka Rural School System. He moved to Mapleton, N.D. in 1939 and farmed with his father. Junior married Lillie Ann Akason on October 29, 1944. He went into the military in 1945 and served in the Philippines during WWII. After discharge from the war, he farmed in the Mapleton area from 1953 to 1957. In 1957, he owned and operated the Mapleton Grocery Store for two years with his wife, Lil. He also worked in construction doing carpentry and finishing work. He worked for Slingsby in 1960 for the next twenty years. This journey involved building missile sites near Lakota, N.D. Junior semi-retired in 1978, when he purchased and operated Rush Lake Tent and Trailer Park for the next twenty years, until retiring in 1998.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, bird watching as well as playing cards. Junior was a member of the West Fargo and New York Mills VFW, and the Ottertail Lions Club.
He is survived by two sons, Garland (Bev), West Fargo, and Daniel, Ottertail, Minn.; one daughter, Laura (Kim) Bruesch, Amenia, N.D.; four grandchildren, Lisa (Hagemeister) Gilberts, Jason Hagemeister, Wesley (Colleen) Bruesch and Tracey (Scott) Sherman; and nine great-grandchildren, Chelsie, Dustin and Brandon Gilberts, Szaun, Samantha, Anakin, Ryker Bruesch, Shelby and Sydney Sherman; one brother, Richard (Linnea) Hagemeister, Ottertail, Minn.; three sisters, Darlene Sauvageau, West Fargo, Ardele (Leroy) Hinz and Judy (Richard) Bristol, both of Fargo.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lil; daughter, Karen Lee and brother, Dallas Hagemeister.
Visitation was held Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at the West Funeral Home, West Fargo.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at the West Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at the Mapleton Cemetery.
