The West Fargo Knights of Columbus is sponsoring its second annual soccer challenge, with winners progressing through local, district, regional and state competitions.
The local competition will take place at the Scheels Soccer Complex in West Fargo, on Tuesday, Oct. 5. In the event of inclement weather, a rain date is set for Thursday, Oct. 7. Registration will start at 6 p.m., with competition beginning at 6:30 p.m. A parent or guardian is asked to accompany the athlete to sign the consent form. There is no entry fee to participate.
The soccer challenge is open to all boys and girls, ages 10-14, in the West Fargo, Fargo, and surrounding communities. Eligibility is determined by the age of the contestant as of Sept. 1. Proof of age will be required for all winners. Athletes in high school should be advised to check with their school athletic directors or their state high school athletic associations regarding possible eligibility conflicts.
Scoring for the competition will involve participants being given 15 penalty kicks. Points will be awarded depending on the area of the scoring zones through which the ball passes. Normal rules of soccer regarding penalty kicks apply. Penalty kick violations include stepping on or over the line before the kick, and any contact made with the ball counts as a kick. Judges and scorers will have the final authority in verifying scores and violations.
