Kudos for excellent family fun event
West Fargo's former downtown area was reminiscent of the old West Fest street dance days last Thursday evening as the Sheyenne Street corridor buzzed with excitement and activity created by the first annual Cruise Night event that far exceeded organizers expectations.
Hundreds of people filled the seven-block area set aside for the classic vehicle extravaganza, snapping pictures and expressing awe over the wide variety of makes and models showcased, providing the opportunity for fantastic family fun and enjoyment.
Businesses lining the roadway also experienced an evening of rejuvenation, participating in a wholehearted effort to enhance all the evening already had to offer.
The mood was light and happy, as individuals and families made their way along the route.
It was obvious that Sheyenne Street in West Fargo was ready for such an event, and that those attending were as much in need of such a welcome social diversion, as evidenced by everyone's outspoken appreciation both during and after the event.
Kudos to the West Fargo Area Chamber of Commerce and the Toppers Car Club for so ably coordinating the activity.
And kudos to all the vehicle enthusiasts who took the time to travel to our community to be a part of this highly successful evening.
The plan is to hold two more similar shows yet this season, with the focus on even bigger and better - one the third Thursday in August, and the last the third Thursday of September in advance of the city's community days celebration.
This would include involving additional businesses along the Cruise Night route, possibly developing door prize drawings, as well as incorporating music in a larger way into the mix, greater enhancing the liveliness of the evening.
The goal is also enticing new auto enthusiasts, along with the returning passel of participants who supported the first show.
However, it stacks up, the tone has been set and the momentum is high.
Plan on attending.
It will be an evening you won't soon forget.
