The West Fargo Main Avenue reconstruction project now has a lane closure at the intersection of 45th Street North/South and Main Avenue that will extend a few hundred feet on both sides of the intersection on 45th Street. Crews are installing curb and gutter on the northwest and southwest corners of the intersection as well as pouring concrete for the roadway that will need to allow for cure time.
During the closure, southbound motorists will have one lane for left hand turns onto Main Ave. eastbound and one combined lane for traffic to continue southbound on 45th St. and/or turn right onto Main Ave. The speed limit in this segment will be 25 mph while the lane closure is in effect.
Motorists may experience delays in this section of the reconstruction work zone. Due to congestion, motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes when travel allows. Detour signage is posted for the project.
Weather permitting, this project work is expected to take about a week and the lanes will be reopened upon completion.
The traveling public should also note the following updates within in the project:
New driving surface: Traffic from 12th St. E to 5th St. E. has been traveling head-to-head; one lane in each direction, on the westbound lanes of the new Main Ave. roadway. This week another new section opened in the eastbound lanes and motorists are traveling head-to-head, one lane in each direction from 12th St. E. until just before the 45th St. N./S. and Main Ave. intersection. Traffic is now on new pavement throughout the entire stretch of the work zone. With these traffic shifts, crews have begun the remaining roadway removal on Main Avenue and the old frontage roads.
Motorist should also note there is a four-way stop at the intersection of 9th St. E. and Main Avenue.
Business access on north frontage road: Businesses located on the north frontage road of Main Avenue are open for business and accessible during these project needs at the 45th Street and Main Avenue intersection. Business access is via westbound Main Avenue traffic flow with directional signage in place to assist with access.
Business access on west end of work zone has changed: Frontage road from 5th St. E to 9th St. E closed and is being removed. Access to the businesses located along this stretch of the corridor is currently via 1st Avenue East and the cross street of 8th Street Eastt, where currently customers can also access these businesses to the south.
Business access on east end of work zone has changed: The current south business frontage road between 17th St. E. to 45th St. NW. has been removed and private business driveways have been installed. Each driveway is currently accessible to traffic and directional signage is in place for access.
17th St. E. from 2nd Ave. S to Main Ave. is temporary closed: This section of roadway is temporary closed for underground utilities and concrete paving. Traffic is detoured to 45th St. NW. and/or 9th St. E. to access Main Ave. from the south. During this temporary road closure on 17th St. E., access to the south businesses will be via eastbound and westbound Main Ave. and 17th St. E. intersection only. Motorists will not have access to Main Avenue when traveling northbound on 17th St. E. Weather permitting, the intersection is slated to reopen next week.
Motorists should be aware of workers and equipment in near proximity to traffic throughout the construction area. Flaggers are also present throughout the work zone to help direct truck traffic. Motorists should allow extra distance between their vehicles and the vehicles in front of them and obey posted speed limits throughout the work zone. The speed limit in this work zone is 25mph.
