Larson leads Beavers to third place at Valley City meet

VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Bemidji State senior Tina Larson’s ninth-place finish helped the BSU cross country team to a third place finish at the Valley City State University Invitational Friday. The senior turned in a time of 16 minutes, 2 seconds and led the Beaver contingent in the five-team, 4,000-meter race.

In addition to Larson, BSU had 11 runners compete in the event. Fellow senior Michelle Ohman finished just one second behind Larson (16:03) to round out the top 10 runners.

Freshman Emily Taylor posted a 16:45 to place 22nd in her first collegiate race, while Jolynne Denmon and Mackenzie Haupert completed the Beavers’ scoring, crossing the finish line in 29th and 30th, separated by just one second (17:05 and 17:06).

Concordia-Moorhead captured the team title, with University of Minnesota-Morris in a close second. Bemidji State finished third.

In all 74 participants finished the race.

The Beavers return to action Sept. 7 when they host the Greenwood Run. The race is slated for a 4 p.m. start at Greenwood Golf Course in Bemidji.
