LaVonne B. Gale, 82, Fargo, formerly Chaffee, N.D. died on Thursday at Bethany Retirement Living on 42nd, in Fargo.
LaVonne was born on September 16, 1927 at St. Paul, Minn. to Lloyd and Winnie (Otteson) Miller. She grew up in the Buffalo, N.D. area with her parents and brothers, Doug and Marlyn. She graduated from Buffalo High School and attended Moorhead State College earning her certification in teaching. LaVonne taught in the Embden Elementary School and married LaVern E. "Red" Hahn on December 30, 1948. They lived in the Chaffee, N.D. area until his death in 1975. In 1978, LaVonne married Wesley Gale and resided in the Embden, N.D. area until his death. She later moved to Fargo where she remained until recently entering Bethany.
During her life, LaVonne was active in her children's school activities. She was always an accomplished seamstress, sewing many of her children's clothes and, later, quilts. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and also served on the Church Council. LaVonne lived a full life, she enjoyed reading, watching baseball and spending time with family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
LaVonne is survived by her five children, Pamela Swinney, Havre, Mont., Jeri Walter, Holly Stroh, Vancouver, Wash., Kirby, Wahpeton, N.D. and Kyle, Spring, Texas; two step-children, Rodney Gale, West Fargo and Linda Vandrovec, Wheatland, N.D.; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Monday, April 5, 2010 at West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo. Burial was at the Watson Cemetery, rural Leonard, N.D.
