Letter to the Editor: Measure 3 will not protect farmers

I agree with Link Reinhiller who recently wrote, "Measure 3 on the November ballot will not actually protect farmers and ranchers. Instead, it will open up a flood of problems."

The amendment would appear to threaten not only the common good, but also more individual rights than it proposes to protect. Farming and ranching practices are not simple chores; they are complex and evolving interactions with the environment.

What is the problem that this amendment proposes to address? A better approach would be to clearly articulate the perceived problem and then debate and discuss its potential solutions in the legislature and the public forum.
