Library News (July 16)

Summer Reading Program Events

These events are free and open to the public, but registration in the summer reading program is required, except as noted. There are events and activities for all age groups, and each age has a special theme.

Little Fizzers (Pre-school) Simply Stories: 12:30 p.m. Thursday and 10: 15 a.m. Tuesday. This session is geared for lap babies and preschoolers and is just stories – no crafts. For stories and simple make-and-take crafts, visit the library at 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Summer reading program registration is not required.

Story time – Some Dog: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Story times are geared for preschool through first grade age children and their caretakers. Day cares are welcome, but for groups larger than five, please call ahead to (701) 433-5460. Summer Reading Program registration is not required.

Read to a therapy dog: 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Several dogs will be at the library for students to read to for about 10 to 15 minutes each. Summer Reading Program Registration required.

Fun with Food: 10:15 a.m. Today. A program for preschoolers and their caretakers that includes activities and a healthy snack. The program is part of the nutrition program by North Dakota State University Extension Service. Registration is required.

Fizz, Boom, Read! (K-5) Craft: 1:30 p.m. Monday. Pot painting. Supplies will be provided and a door prize drawing will be held. Summer Reading Program Registration is required.

Cookie Decorating (K-5): at 1:30 p.m. and grades 6-8 at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Each student will have two cookies to decorate with instructions from a master decorator. Summer Reading Program Registration required.

Spark a Reaction (Grades 6-8) Craft: 3:30 p.m. Monday. Learn quilting techniques and make a project.

Summer Reading Program registration is required.

Literary Elements: Decoupage Vases (high school age to adults): 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. How to make the old new again. Some vases are available, but participants can bring their own. Summer Reading Program is required.

Regular events

Garden Club: 10:15 a.m. July 23. The garden is part of a program presented by Nikki Johnson with the Youth Nutrition program, NDSU-Cass County Office.

West Fargo: Looking Back, Looking Forward: An exhibit features an illustrated timeline of the history of West Fargo and includes a few peeks at what lies ahead. Visit the exhibit (upper level of the library) during library hours.

Genealogy: Noon and 4 p.m. Saturday. Bring projects or just ask questions.

Knitty Giddy: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. New and experienced crafters are welcome. Bring supplies.

Video Gaming: 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Two hours of fun with many video games, LEGOs and Kinects available to play.

Friday Morning Movie: 10:30 a.m. Friday. “Lightning Thief” (PG, 118 minutes)
