Library News (May 25, 2011)

The Opening Celebration for the Summer Reading Program will take place Saturday, June 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. Enjoy cake, register for programs, and be entertained by the Ogg Creek String Band. This year for the first time programs will be offered for all age groups: Little Explorers (preschool); One World, Many Stories (K-5); You Are Here! (6, 7, 8); and Novel Destinations (high school through adult). The summer will be filled with programs, projects and presenters. Activities include pen pals from England and a read-a-thon to earn money for libraries around the world. Be part of the fun. Pre-registration is required for many Summer Reading Program events. Check with the library for more information at 433-5460.

Regular Events:

Computer Class:  Microsoft Publisher II, Thursday, May 26, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Learn about image sources, grouping, and ordering. Also practice cropping, formatting, and editing photos. You'll be amazed by the options made available to you in Publisher. Sign-up at the service desk or call 433-5460.

Genealogy: Saturday, May 28, 12 to 4 p.m. Genealogist Jackie Marler will be available to help explore family histories. Take your projects or just ask questions.

Knitty Giddy: Tuesday, May 31, 6:30 p.m. If you are an experienced knitter, take along your projects and knit; if you are a new knitter, take your size 8 to size 10 needles and a skein of yarn and you will receive help getting started. Fun, relaxed group.

Storytime: Thursday, May 26, 6:30 p.m., Billy & Blaze, a Horse Story; Tuesday, May 31, 1:30 p.m., The Wild Little Horse; Thursday, June 2, 6:30 p.m., Cookie Mouse comes to Storytime. Take your camera and take pictures. Don't miss this chance to see this favorite storybook character.

Movie: Thursday, May 26, 3:30 p.m. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1." Three young wizards leave school to search for Horcruxes (pieces of an evil wizard's soul). (Rated PG-13, Warner Brothers, 146 min)

Friday Morning Movie: May 27, 10:30 a.m., "You're a Good Sport, Charlie Brown." In this 1975 classic, the Peanuts gang competes in a motocross race.  (Rated G, WB, 25 min)

Saturday Movie Mania: May 28, 2 p.m. "The Secret Garden." In this 1993 remake of Frances Hodgon Burnett's novel, a girl discovers the magical powers of a garden on her uncle's estate.  (Rated G, WB, 102 min)


The Homework Center's last day for this school year will be Thursday, May 26, 3 to 5:30 p.m.

The library will be closed on Sundays throughout the summer, beginning May 29; and will be closed for the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 30.
