Special Events:

Pumpkin Decorating Contest: Monday, Oct. 17, to Friday, Oct. 28. It's not too late to submit your entry in the 2nd Annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Paint your own pumpkin and bring it to the library. Voting is open to everyone. Drawing will be held on Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. Winners (one from each group) will receive a pie. Four group awards: Preschool - Kindergarten; 1st - 4th Grades; 5th - 8th Grades; High School - Adult.

Rules: Pumpkins must be painted (not carved); pumpkins cannot be over 28"; voting is open to staff and patrons; more than one pumpkin may be submitted; winners will be announced on Friday, October 28 by 4:00 pm; all pumpkins must be picked up by 5 on Sunday, Oct. 30, any left after that time will be disposed of.

Halloween Movie: Monday, Oct. 31, 7 to 8 p.m. Ghosts and ghouls: get a history lesson on Halloween's scariest tales on the spookiest night of the year. Call the library for more information (433-5460).

Regular Events:

Technology Thursday: Email 101 (Gmail), Thursday, Oct. 27, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. An internet-based free email account is a wonderful way to communicate. Attend Email 101 and you will receive help creating and setting up your own Gmail account and be guided through the basics of sending and receiving email. Sign up at the Service Desk or call 433-5460.

Genealogy: Saturday, Oct. 29, 12 to 4 p.m. Genealogist Jackie Marler will be available to help explore family histories. Take your projects or just ask questions.

Knitty Giddy: Tuesday, Nov. 1, 6:30 p.m. If you are an experienced knitter, take along your projects and knit; if you are a new knitter, take your size 8 to size 10 needles and a skein of yarn and you will receive help getting started.  Fun, relaxed group.

Ham Radio Group: Wednesday, Oct. 26, 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Open to adults interested in learning about ham radio.

Storytime: Thursday, Oct. 27, 6:30 p.m., "The Boy and the Moon" and a West Fargo Police Officer will read and discuss Halloween safety; Tuesday, Nov. 1, 1:30 p.m "Rrrrr, a Lion;" Thursday, Nov. 3, 6:30 p.m., The Cat in the Hat Visits the Library.

Simply Stories: Tuesday, Nov. 1, 10 a.m. Take your little ones to the library and enjoy two stories. Unlike regular storytimes, this program is just stories - no crafts.  If you're looking for stories and crafts, visit the library Tuesdays at 1:30 or Thursdays at 6:30.

Friday Morning Movie: Oct. 28, 10:30 a.m., "Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie." When Pooh eats all the Halloween candy, Roo and Lumpy must catch the Gabloon to wish for more candy.  (Rated G, Disney, 66 min.)

New Movie Saturday: Oct. 29, 2 p.m., "True Grit." Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon star in this re-make of a classic western.  (Rated PG-13, 110 min)

Upcoming Events:

2nd Annual Cards for Veterans: Friday, Nov. 4, 3:30 to 5 p.m. It's time to "Thank a vet"!  All supplies provided, you supply the creativity. The library will send the cards to the Veterans Hospital in Fargo. Create as many cards as you wish. Open to everyone.

4th Annual Caramel Apple Day: Friday, Nov. 18, 4 to 5 p.m. What could be better than a delicious apple dipped in warm caramel and rolled in your choice of toppings?  Be part of the fun. Free while supplies last.


The Homework Center is open Monday through Thursday, 3-5:30 p.m., when school is in session. The Center is closed on all Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and days that school is not in session (snow days and holiday breaks).

The library is located at 109 3rd St. E., in the Lodoen Community Center. Sandra Hannahs serves as library director.
