Special Events:

West Fargo: Looking Back, Looking Forward: This exhibit features an illustrated timeline of the history of West Fargo and include a few peeks at what lies ahead. Visit the exhibit (upper level of the library) during regular hours. Special West Fargo Timeline Viewing for Seniors – with pie: Wednesday, Oct. 9, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Seniors are invited to visit the library to reminisce or learn about West Fargo history during a special viewing of West Fargo: Looking Back, Looking Forward, an illustrated timeline exhibit of West Fargo history. As a special bonus, seniors can enjoy a piece of pie for dessert, donated by West Fargo’s TNT’s Diner. (Available while supplies last.)

Read to Rover: Thursday, Oct. 10, 6:30 p.m. Read to a Dog. Therapy dogs will visit the library and they love to be read to. They don’t even care if you make a mistake. The trainers stay with the dogs at all times. Bring your own book or use one of the library’s books. Register for this program, as each person is assigned a limited time with a dog. Register by calling 701-433-5460 or stop by the library.

Friends of Library -Used Book Sale: Saturday, Oct. 12, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 13, 1 to 4 p.m. The Friends of the Library invite you to their autumn book sale. Books are in good condition and priced to sell. Silent Auction will be held for 2 book shelves and box of vinyl records. All proceeds will benefit the West Fargo Public Library. If you can’t wait, consider the special pre-sale for Friends of the Library members on Friday, Oct. 11 between 4:00 and 5:50. This members-only event features light refreshments and first choice of books to purchase. You can renew or join at the pre-sale.

Magic @ the Library: Thursday, Oct. 17, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Magician Jeffrey Salveson (and his rabbit!) will be back at the library with magic to entertain and amaze. Join the fun. This is a great family program, free and open to magic lovers of all ages. The Magic Show will be in place of the usual storytime.

Regular Events:

Tech Class – Parent / Child Class: Monday, Oct. 14, 6:30 p. m. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore the child and teen sites available through the library’s web site: Tumble Books, Tutor.com, Learning Express and more. Join for this super fun class. Registration is required.

Genealogy: Saturday, Oct. 12, 12 to 4 p.m. Are you ready to explore your family’s history? Receive help. Bring your projects or just ask questions.

Ham Radio Operators (RRRA): Wednesday, Oct. 9, 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. Open to all adults interested in learning about ham radio operating.

Knitty Giddy Group: Tuesday, Oct. 15, 6:30 p.m. Adults are invited to join this fun group of knitters and crocheters. New and experienced crafters are welcome. Attend with your own supplies. Lots of help to get beginners started. New knitters should take size 8 or 10 needles and yarn. If you’d like to learn to crochet, take a crochet hook and yarn.

Teacups Book Club: Monday, Oct. 14, 7 p. m. West Fargo Public Library’s tea-loving ook club meets once a month on Mondays. This month’s book is: The Teaberry Strangler, by Laura Childs. Don’t forget to take your cup for tea or lemonade. Free and open to high school through adults.

Friday Morning Movie: Clifford’s Puppy Days: New Friends, Little Puppy, Big Adventures, Oct. 11, 10:30 a.m. The favorite little red puppy and friends have some exciting adventure tales to share. Rated E

Simply Stories Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 10:15 AM Bring your little ones to the library and enjoy two stories! This session is geared for lap babies and preschoolers. Unlike our regular storytimes, this program is just stories – no crafts. If you’re looking for stories and simple make-and-take crafts, come to the library Tuesdays at 1:30 or Thursdays at 6:30.

Storytime: Welcome to the wonderful world of stories and make-and-take crafts. Story times are geared for preschool through 1st grade age children and their caretakers. Daycares are welcome, but if your group is larger than 5, call ahead so there are enough crafting supplies. (701) 433-5460. Thursday, Oct. 10, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Read with Rover (Special event. Upcoming Events:

Preserving Family Heirlooms: Saturday, Oct. 19, 1 p.m. Is Grandma’s wedding dress in a box in the attic? Learn how to preserve family heirlooms like a museum professional. The first part of the workshop will be a presentation about how to care for photographs, documents and objects like clothing and silver. The second half will be a hands-on workshop about digitally preserving documents and photographs by using a scanner. The first ten registrants are encouraged to bring one photograph or document to be scanned and burned on to a CD. If you missed this session when it was offered in October, this is your chance. Announcements:

The Library iPads have recently been updated to iOS7 and there are 40 apps to choose from. One particularly recommended is Zinio. Zinio allows patrons to download and read dozens of popular magazines here in the library or on your computer or mobile device at home. iPads are available for checkout (90 minutes) for use in the Library. (Restrictions apply – ask at the service desk.)
