Little League to be played in Fargo this season
Fargo Little League has been chartered for its first season of play by Little League Baseball and Softball based in South Williamsport, Pa.
The league is hoping to attract players from the Fargo and West Fargo city boundaries, including the towns of Horace and Harwood.
Beginning with the 2010 season, the Fargo/West Fargo area will have the opportunity to participate in the Little League International Tournament, which offers 12 levels of play for children ages 9-18 in baseball and softball. The tournament concludes with the Little League Baseball World Series each August.
Besides tournaments, Little League participants get other benefits such as free online manager and coach training, free background checks, and opportunities to attend state and regional clinics and seminars.
Tryouts for Fargo Little League already have started. Another tryout is scheduled for today and the final tryout date is Tuesday, Jan. 26. To register, e-mail email@example.com. Only 25 players will be accepted per tryout, with players having not previously tried out getting preference. Only 48-52 players will be accepted to play in the entire league.
Tryouts are at Dash Sports in Fargo. Participants are asked to bring a glove, bat, good running shoes and athletic clothing. Players must be 10, 11 or 12 years old on May 1.
