Local homes featured on annual garden tour

A variety of beautiful yards at several West Fargo and Horace homes will be featured on the 2007 Garden Tour sponsored by Soroptimist International of Fargo. The West Fargo and Horace gardens will be available for viewing on Wednesday, July 18 and South Fargo gardens on Thursday, July 19, from 1 to 7 p.m. each day.

The tour in West Fargo will begin at the home of Kim and Sandy Alberty, 1912 Princeton Lane, and proceed to the homes of Wesley and Lynelle Dick, 1920 Princeton Lane, Jim and Glenda Nelson, 430 20th Ave. E., Paul and Nancy McKinnon, 1861 1st St., and Lute and Paula Simley, 118 50th Ave. E., all West Fargo; and Kim and Pam Beckius, 7117 Woodland Circle, Scott and Carla Scholl, 288 Chestnut Dr., and Robert and Marilyn Bensen, 326 Wall Ave. W., all Horace.

The Fargo tour will begin at the home of Tom and Nancy Vessel, 1203 7th St. S., and then proceed to the gardens of Daniel and Lorel Hannaher, 1213 7th St. S, Mark and Kay Forkner, 1337 10th St. S., Byrum and Katie Cartwright, 506 18th Ave. S., Ron and Karen Offutt, 401 Harwood Dr. S., William and Jocelyn Kent, 3814 15th St. S., Allen and Rita Yan, 5003 Rosecreek Parkway, and Terry and Nancy Olson, 4905 Meadowcreek Dr.

Soroptimist International of Fargo is a service club composed of women whose mission is to provide volunteer service to their communities on behalf of women's issues. The Club was originally founded in 1921, with the local chapter organized in 1951.

Money raised at the Garden Tour stays in the area, with recipients of the donations from last year's tours including K.I.D.S., Sisters Path, Fraser, Hospice and Go Red for Women through Dakota Medical Foundation.

Soroptimist members also donate time and/or contributions to Fraser, Prairie Public Broadcasting, Great Plains Food Bank of Lutheran Social Services, the MeritCare Festival of Wreaths and Habitat for Humanity - Women Build and ReStore.

Anyone interested is encouraged to take in the tours. Tickets are $10 for each day or $15 for a two-day ticket. They are available from any Soroptimist member, Cash Wise Foods in Fargo and Moorhead, Country Greenery in Fargo and Moorhead, Shotwell Floral (both locations), Baker Nursery, Zandbroz Variety, Red River Coffee and Curt's Lock and Key.

The Garden Tour committee welcomes suggestions for yards to be considered for future tours in Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo areas. Committee members are Joan Koperski, 293-7172; Charlotte Luken, 232-1643; and Marlene Daul, 232-6063.
