Major winter storm becoming more likely
GRAND FORKS - The National Weather Service says a major winter storm is becoming more likely Friday night through Sunday for eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.
Snow is expected to develop Friday night and may become heavy at times on Saturday and Sunday, the weather service said, adding winds will also increase by Sunday, causing blowing and drifting snow over the region.
It's too early to predict snowfall amounts, but "significant accumulations" are possible and travel may become difficult, according to the weather service office in Grand Forks.
A large storm system will move out of the Colorado Rockies on Friday and into the Northern Plains by Saturday, carrying abundant Gulf of Mexico and Pacific Ocean moisture that will fall in the form of snow, the weather service said.
