Man injured in West Fargo crash involving parked semi-trailer
WEST FARGO - A 46-year-old man was in critical condition this morning after crashing his Chevy pickup truck into a parked semi trailer in West Fargo on Sunday.
The accident occurred around 6:45 p.m. Sunday on the 400 block of 15th Street Northwest.
A witness saw the pickup driving down 15th Street at an estimated speed of between 60 and 70 miles per hour, West Fargo police officer Al Schmidt said.
The witness reported seeing a burst of dust and hearing a loud noise as the pickup truck slid underneath the back of the trailer.
The driver, Darcy Christianson, was pinned behind the steering wheel but appeared to have ducked prior to impact, Schmidt said.
West Fargo fire and ambulance crews were able to extract him from the vehicle within about 15 minutes, Schmidt said.
Christianson was taken to Innovis Health in Fargo with unknown injuries. He was listed in critical condition as of about 9 a.m., hospital spokeswoman Miranda Glandt said.
Officers believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, since beer cans and the odor of alcohol were present at the scene, Schmidt said.
The pickup truck was totaled, but the amount of damage to the semi trailer is unknown, Schmidt said.
Innovis officials could not provide information on Christianson's condition Sunday night.
