Mapleton, N.D., woman killed in 4-vehicle crash west of West Fargo
A 58-year-old woman from Mapleton, N.D., was killed and three people were sent to the hospital in a four-vehicle accident Monday night on Interstate 94 just west of West Fargo.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a 1998 Ford Explorer SUV was westbound in the right lane when a 2007 Toyota Corolla in the left lane swerved into the Explorer, sending it across the median and into eastbound traffic.
The Explorer sideswiped an eastbound semi and crashed head-on into a Chevy Suburban. The two SUV's came to rest in the grass south of the eastbound lane.
The accident occurred near mile marker 342.
A passenger in the Explorer was killed in the accident, and the driver, a 58-year-old Mapleton man, was taken to Innovis Health in Fargo.
The Suburban's driver, a 45-year-old man from Lennox, S.D., and his 44-year-old female passenger, also from Lennox, were also taken to the hospital.
The driver of the Corolla, a 23-year-old West Fargo man, and the semi's driver, a 38-year-old man from Vancouver, Wash., were not injured.
The patrol had not yet released the names of those involved in the crash, which happened about 7:07 p.m.
It was raining at the time of the crash and the roadway was wet, the patrol said in a news release. The crash remains under investigation.
The Explorer and Suburban were totaled. Damaged was estimated at $2,000 to the Corolla and $15,000 to the semi.
