Margaret L. "Marge" Anderson, 69, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Perham Memorial Home in Perham.

Margaret L. Kessel was born to Raphael and Margaret (Klein) Kessel on Jan. 12, 1940 in Dickinson, N.D., where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Dickinson High School in 1958. She then moved to Minneapolis, where she worked for the Northwest Bank for a short time.

On Sept. 10, 1960 Marge married Merlin Anderson in Dickinson. They made their home in Crookston, Minn.,, where she worked at the Crookston National Bank. In 1977, they moved to Detroit Lakes, where Marge worked as a hostess at the Holiday Inn. She later worked as a blackjack dealer at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen for 16 years.

Marge enjoyed flower gardening, shopping, and her cats. She was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching her grandchildren's games. Time spent with family was very important to her.

Surviving Marge are her husband, Merlin "Merl" Anderson of Detroit Lakes; one daughter, Ginelle (Robert) Guansing of Detroit Lakes; two sons, Kevin (Michelle) Anderson, of Verona, Wis., and Jeff (Vanessa) Anderson of Perham; 10 grandchildren; four brothers, Richard Kessel of Dickinson, Ed Kessel of Bismarck, Raymond Kessel of Dickinson and Robert (Carole) Kessel of Bismarck, N.D.; two sisters, Betty Schocker of Dickinson and Veronica Dukart of Anaheim, Calif.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Her parents preceded her in death.

Visitation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 30 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, May 1 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Jerry Rogers officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Dickinson, N.D.
