Margaret R. "Peggy" Backus, 78, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes.
Peggy was a long time resident of Chippewa Falls, Wis., and in recent years resided at Lamplighter Manor in Detroit Lakes. She wrote poetry, was a talented musician, and loved her poodles and her children with a passion. Peggy was also a very faithful person, who shared her faith openly with others. She was also a very good listener, who took the time to listen to others.
Surviving Peggy are two daughters, Maureen Engel of Detroit Lakes and Marcia (Russell) Beyer, of Anoka, Minn.; one son, Michael (Celeste) Auvil of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Harlow Backus (1993).
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14 at West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, May 15 at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
