Former Detroit Lakes resident Marlys Staberg McFadden, 74, died Saturday, December 8, 2007 after a prolonged illness.
Marlys was born to Arthur and Pauline Staberg on Oct. 19, 1933 in Grand Forks, N.D. She grew up in Detroit Lakes, and then attended the University of Minnesota. While living in Baltimore, Md., she was active in the Republican Party, managing several political campaigns and served as a legislative assistant in the Maryland House of Delegates.
In addition, Marlys was a genealogist, compiling extensive research for family and friends. She was also noted for her gourmet cooking and baking as well her skills as a needle pointer and with many other types of handwork. Her devotion and love of her family were her hallmark achievements. She will be deeply missed by her grieving family.
Marlys leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Robert McFadden; three children, Kathleen M. (Alan) Myers of New Market, Md., Jeffrey R. (Christine) McFadden of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Melissa M. (Bruce) Dell of Port Republic, Md.; as well as five grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 at the Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel in Advance, N.C.
A memorial Service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Parkway United Church of Christ in Winston-Salem, N.C., with Dr. Thomas Mann officiating.
