Mike Holland, 79, West Fargo, ND died on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.
Michael Lee Holland was born Aug. 26, 1934 in Browns Valley, MN to Rudy and Muriel Holland. He graduated from Browns Valley High School. Mike married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Schiefelbein on Oct. 6, 1953. They made their home in Fargo. In 1956, Mike received his Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from NDSU. He was a staff pharmacist at the Fargo Clinic from 1957 to 1964. In 1959, they moved to West Fargo. With the encouragement of Dr. Kulland, who owned the West Fargo Medical Center, Mike started The Prescription Shop in West Fargo in 1964. In 1969, they relocated to its current location at the corner of Sheyenne St. and 13th Ave. Mike managed the West Fargo Medical Center for many years as well as owning and operating The Prescription Shop. He retired in 1997, but continued to remain active in the family business. Mike and Shirley enjoyed winters in Arizona and summers at Big Cormorant Lake.
Mike was active in the West Fargo community. He served on the school board, as a director of First State Bank, and on the building committee at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was a member of the West Fargo Chamber of Commerce and Jaycees. Mike received the lifetime achievement award - the Book of Golden Deeds from the West Fargo Exchange Club. He was also a proud NDSU Team Maker and avid Bison fan.
Mike is survived by his wife of 60 years Shirley; four children, Sherry (Bradley) Olslund, West Fargo, Barb (Dale) Ebensteiner, Fargo, Tim (Elly) Holland, West Fargo and Jon (Tammy) Holland, West Fargo; six grandchildren, Jana (Robert) Olslund Maxwell, Matt (Ashlie) Olslund, Emily Holland, Michael Holland, Katelyn Holland and Ben Holland; brother, Jerry (Barbara) Holland, Stillwater, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Holland and brother, James.
Funeral Mass: Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 at 2 PM at Holy Cross Catholic Church, West Fargo.
Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo.
