Air Force Staff Sgt. Richard J. Timmerman participated in the Air Force Global Strike Command's Global Strike Challenge Security Forces competition at Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City, La. The competition involves the world's premier bomber, intercontinental ballistic missile and security forces, where more than 400 service members assigned to wings of the Air Force Global Strike Command, Air Combat Command, Air Force Reserve Command, and the Air National Guard participate in the competition.

During the event, security forces teams competed for the Charlie Fire Trophy; the bomb wings competed for the Fairchild Trophy, and the missile wings competed for the Blanchard Trophy. Trophies were also awarded to the best teams in bomber operations, bomber maintenance, missile operations, and missile maintenance competition.

The competition recognized outstanding Air Force Global Strike Command members and teams, while improving their combat capabilities. Team members participated in innovative thinking, teamwork, and esprit de corps situations that are essential to the success of the command's mission.

Timmerman is a weapons load crew chief assigned to the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot Air Force Base, N.D. The staff sergeant has served in the military for 10 years.

He is the son of Roxanne Timmerman of Audubon, Minn. His wife, Danielle, is the daughter of Jeff Johnson of Kindred. The sergeant graduated in 1997 from West Fargo High School, and received two associate degrees in 2005 and 2007, both from Community College of the Air Force.

Army National Guard Pvt. Shelby K. Pickard has graduated from the Automated Logistical Specialist Advanced Individual Training (AIT) course at the U.S. Army Quartermaster Center and School, Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va.

The course is designed to train soldiers to establish and maintain stock records and other documents such as inventory, material control, accounting and support reports, automated and manual accounting records; perform stock record/warehouse functions pertaining to receipt, storage, distribution and issue and maintain equipment records and parts; review and verify bills of lading, contracts, and purchase orders; repair and construct shipping crates for equipment and supplies, and perform prescribed loads and shop stock lists in manual and automated supply applications.

Pickard is the daughter of Peggy and stepdaughter of Karl Larson of West Fargo. She is a 2008 graduate of West Fargo High School.

Pvt. Charles J. Rolie of West Fargo, has completed Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training for the North Dakota Army National Guard.

Rolie attended Basic Combat Training for 10 weeks at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., graduating September 2010. He then attended Advanced Individual Training which consisted of 6 weeks of military occupational schooling at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., graduating Oct. 29, 2010.

Prior to his training, Rolie was assigned to the Recruit Training Company in Fargo, which prepared him for his military training by learning basic combat and soldier tasks. Since the completion of his training, Rolie has been assigned to the 188th Engineer Company in Wahpeton, N.D., as an Interior Electrician (12R).

Rolie and his wife, Jessica, have a 3-year-old son, Nathan, and his parents are Dean and Angela Rolie of Fargo.
