Military News: Dockter honored

Petty Officer Third Class Jason Dockter, received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal on May 13, in Quantico, Va. He is a 2007 graduate of West Fargo High School and the son of Craig and Sue Dockter.

The entire battalion was assembled for the ceremony and the base commander made the presentation to Dockter, being honored for professional achievement as religious program specialist, security battalion and Marine Memorial Chapel, Marine Corps Base Quantico, from May 2008 to May 2010.

Dockter executed his duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner, and during a gap in the chaplain billet at security battalion, Dockter was able to maintain a ministry of presence and served as a liason between other chaplains on base and 430 marines and their families.

Throughout this same period and serving outside his directed duties, he assisted other religious ministry teams in headquarters and service battalion, the basic school, officer candidate school, and chapel annex, with field worship services, and daily administrative tasks in support of 8,000 marines and sailors.

Additionally, he volunteered to take on responsibilities and duties usually provided by a noncommissioned officer, and assisted in the development of new duty procedures for enlisted personnel which directly impacted the morale of the unit.

Dockter's initiative, professionalism, and loyal dedication to duty reflected credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
