N.D. flu count tops 3,000 cases
BISMARCK - North Dakota's flu count now tops 3,000 for the first time since 2005, the state Health Department says.
The latest count shows 3,059 confirmed cases in the state, compared with 3,752 in 2005. Last year the department reported 2,369 confirmed cases.
Billings County is the only county with no reports of the flu this year.
Cass County reported 613 cases this week, followed by Burleigh County with 490, Morton County with 191 and Grand Forks County with 176 cases.
Health officials say 65 people have been hospitalized because of the flu this year.
The flu season generally runs from October through May.
Michelle Feist, the Health Department's influenza coordinator, said fewer cases are being reported every week.
"But people should keep in mind that it does last through May," she said. "Still continue to take those precautions ... wash your hands, stay home when you are sick."
