Fargo police arrested a 22-year-old man early Wednesday after an SUV crashed into a home on north Broadway, causing an estimated $10,000 to $20,000 in damage.

Sgt. Mike Erbes said the 2009 Land Rover was westbound on 21st Avenue North at about 1:52 a.m. when it approached a "T" intersection and went through the stop sign, skidded across Broadway, went up the driveway on the other side and struck the corner of the house with enough force to break the corner load-bearing beam.

"The family was home," Erbes said. "The lady who lives there said that she was getting ready for bed and she heard the crash - and I'm sure felt it - and went out and found the gentleman in her driveway with his car wrapped around the house."

Police arrested Kirk Michael Dehler of West Fargo on suspicion of drunken driving, Erbes said, noting Dehler didn't flee the scene and was "fairly cooperative" with police.

No one was injured in the incident. Dehler was alone in the Land Rover, which is owned by another party and sustained substantial front-end damage, Erbes said.

Dehler is a pitcher for the North Dakota State University baseball team.

Athletic director Gene Taylor said Dehler has been suspended indefinitely from the team and may face additional sanctions through the university.

"We'll evaluate his status on the team as he goes through the process both legally and with the university," Taylor said.
