West Fargo police confirmed the death of the man earlier today. Detective Derek Cruff said the man worked for Scott's Electric of Wahpeton.

The beam had been bolted, but must have come loose, Cruff said.

The accident was reported late this morning. Workers at the site were packing up their equipment and leaving about noon.

F-M Ambulance personnel were seen carrying a body into an ambulance at 1:21 p.m.

Cruff said the worker was wearing a hard hat at the time of the accident. Eight to 10 others were in the vicinity when the beam fell, Cruff said. No other injuries were reported.

OSHA arrived shortly before 1:30 to begin its investigation.

West Fargo School Superintendent David Flowers was out of town, but said the School District does not have any details on the incident yet.

"It certainly is tragic news to hear," he said.

More details will be reported as they become available.
