No time like the present for tossing hat into ring
The City Election is fast approaching on June 12 for both city and school board positions up for grabs.
It may seem like a long way off, but for individuals considering throwing their hats in the ring for respective offices, it's only a little over four months away.
For any of you out there sitting on the fence still trying to make up your minds about seeking any of the open spots, now would be the time to move forward, pick up your petitions and get them filed, allowing yourself a little bit of campaign time to present your views and confirm why you would be the right person for any of the respective positions.
In West Fargo, there are two open city commission posts, two open park board seats, and three open school board positions up for grabs.
All are four year terms.
So far, two incumbent candidates and one newcomer have announced their intentions to run for City Commission.
It used to be that you could call city hall and staff could tell you who had picked up petitions, in turn providing insight into who might be considering running.
But that knowledge isn't quite as deliberate anymore with the applications available online.
That may be a good thing, in that it adds a little more suspense.
Anyway, those of you thinking about seeking a position need to know the deadline for turning in candidacy petitions, along with a Statement of Interest form, is Friday, April 13, at 4 p.m.
The number of signatures required on the petitions is based on the number of voters in the last election. Those figures are available in the various offices distributing the petitions.
In order to be valid, signatures on petitions must to be those of qualified voters who reside in the city.
All the paperwork required is available for any of the open positions on the city website at westfargond.gov or by stopping in at City Hall, 800 4th Ave. E. or at the school district website at www.west-fargo.k12.nd.us or at the district offices at 207 Main Ave. W.
