Nora Mueller, 73, West Fargo, began her eternal life, Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, following a courageous fourteen year battle with Huntington's Disease.
Nora Irene Bartel was born Nov. 6, 1936, on the family farm at Merricourt, N.D. She was raised at Merricourt, and graduated from Monango High School. She attended Yankton College in South Dakota, where she received her teaching degree. She taught school for two years in the Ellendale, N.D. area.
In December 1956, Nora married Ray Ulmer and to this union was born their daughter, Shanda. She and Ray owned and operated Ulmer's Jack and Jill in Ellendale.
Nora was very active in her Presbyterian Church and choir, UPW and was a Sunday school teacher. She also enjoyed bowling, golf and traveling.
In 1980, she moved to Fargo and worked for Nash Finch Co., as a health and beauty aid distributor. Nora married Vern Mueller Aug. 1, 1987, in Kulm, N.D. Vern was a Presbyterian pastor and they lived in Bradford, Pa., and later in Dayton, Ky., where he served perishes. While in Dayton, Nora was very active in her church, where she was an organist, choir member and UPW member. She also belonged to the Women's Guild of Dayton and also enjoyed gardening as a hobby. In 1996, while living in Dayton, Nora was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease.
In March 2002, Vern retired and they moved back to Vern's hometown of Kulm. Vern died from cancer after six months of retirement in November 2002. Following Vern's death, Nora moved to West Fargo, to live with her daughter, Shanda and son-in-law, Curt Cossette. During her stay with Shanda and Curt, her granddaughter, Shae was born. Shae had a very positive influence on Nora's quality of life. In July 2007, Nora moved to Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo.
She is survived by her daughter, Shanda (Curt) Cossette, West Fargo; granddaughter, Shae, West Fargo; mother, Martha Bartel, Ellendale; sisters, Marion (Martin) Richter, Monango, Pearl (Ervin) Richter, Bismarck, N.D. and Bernice (Gary) Olson, Bath, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m., in West Funeral Chapel, West Fargo, with a prayer service at 7.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m., in Faith Lutheran Church, West Fargo.
There will be a Spring burial at the Ellendale Cemetery.
