Olsons, Hapala to lead West Fargo VFW and Military Order of Cooties

Arthur W. Jones VFW Post 7564, Ladies Auxiliary, and Military Order of Cooties Pup Tent 8 recently had their election and installation of officers for the 2013 - 2014 year. Jamie Olson was elected Post Commander, Elizabeth "Betsy" Olson, Ladies Auxiliary President and James Hapala, Seam Squirrel - Commander of Pup Tent 8.

Jamie Olson is a Navy veteran with four years of service and overseas duty in the first Gulf War aboard USS England CG22 Guided Missile Cruiser. He was raised and attended school in West Fargo graduating in 1989. He is married to Elizabeth "Betsy" (Just) and they have three sons; Zack, Nolan, and Ian. Jamie works for the West Fargo Park District and is current Facilities Manager of the Veterans Memorial Arena and Veterans Memorial Pool.

Betsy Olson was elected President of the West Fargo VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Betsy was adopted from Columbia Bogata in 1977 and came to America speaking Spanish. She graduated from Fargo South High School in 1992 and married Jamie Olson in 1995. She became active in the Ladies Auxiliary in 2010 and worked her way up to be elected president.

The West Fargo VFW and Ladies Auxiliary have a rich tradition of enhancing the lives of people through its community service programs, special projects and maintaining the National VFW motto of "Honoring the Dead by Helping the Living."

Hapala was born and raised in Oakes, N.D. He served in the Navy for four years, including overseas duty in Vietnam. He has served the West Fargo VFW in all officer positions and is a Past State Commander of the N.D. VFW. Hapala is retired from Gremada Industries after 40 years of employment; and is the father of two children, Sarah and Jeff.

Military Order of Cooties Pup Tent 8 "Pack Rats" is the "Honor Degree" of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Cooties are dedicated members who perform duties involving the aid to hospitalized veterans, donating blood, and promoting membership of the VFW in addition to the various projects with the Post and community. Their motto is "Keep 'em Smiling in Beds of White".

Arthur W. Jones VFW Post 7564 located at 308 Sheyenne Street is open to the public.
