Because the Pioneer had such limited space this week, here's some extra online content sports fans may want to know.

Besides girls tennis and track and field, which head to their respective state tournaments this week, baseball also is getting ready for the postseason.

West Fargo finished up its season last week, with three straight conference victories. On Tuesday, the Packers defeated Fargo North 2-0, before sweeping the Spartans on Thursday 1-0 and 9-5.

West Fargo now prepares for the East Region tournament, which begins Thursday in Wahpeton. The Packers are No. 2 with a 15-3 conference record and 20-5 overall. At 17-1, Fargo South was crowned regular-season champion. The Bruins posted an overall record of 29-2.

Thursday's pairings are as follows:

• Game 1 (11 a.m.): No. 8 Grand Forks Central (6-12) vs. No. 1 Fargo South.

• Game 2 (1:30 p.m.): No. 5 Fargo North (10-8) vs. No. 4 Fargo Shanley (11-7).

• Game 3 (4 p.m.): No. 7 Fargo Davies (8-10) vs. No. 2 West Fargo.

• Game 4 (6:30 p.m.): No 6 Wahpeton (9-9) vs. No. 3 Grand Forks Red River (11-7).

The remaining proposed schedules will be as follows:

• Friday: Game 5, 11 a.m., Game 1 loser vs. Game 2 loser (loser out); Game 6, 1:30 p.m., Game 3 loser vs. Game 4 loser (loser out); Game 7, 4 p.m., Game 1 winner vs. Game 2 winner; Game 8, 6:30 p.m., Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 winner.

• Saturday: Game 9, 11 a.m., Game 6 winner vs. Game 7 loser (state qualifier); Game 10, 1:30 p.m., Game 5 winner vs. Game 8 loser (state qualifier); Game 11, 4 p.m., Game 7 winner vs. Game 8 winner (championship).

If the Packers qualify, they'll move on to the Class A State Tournament, which runs June 2-4 at Jamestown's Jack Brown Stadium. If in¬clement weather prevails, tournament managers shall postpone the tournament as necessary. Tournament games will begin daily at 11:30 a.m., with the third game beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The proposed pairings are: 1 East vs. 4 West; 2 West vs. 3 East; 1 West vs. 4 East; and 2 East vs. 3 West.
