Packers crush Valley City in doubleheader
The Packers softball team's first two games against a North Dakota team were wildly successful, as they flattened the Valley City Hi-Liners 16-0 in the first game of their doubleheader and 15-0 in the second.
Due to the overwhelming offense the team displayed, both games lasted only five innings each.
Senior pitcher Jolene Woodbury was on the mound for both games and did not disappoint. She threw a one-hitter in the first game with seven strikeouts before a two-hit, eight-strikeout performance in the second game.
Woodbury also stood out at the plate, batting in two runs in each game, including a solo home run in the second game. She ended the day with six hits.
Junior catcher Michaela Leibl was the team's star in the batter's box. In two games, she had six hits in nine at-bats and seven runs batted in, three of which came off a home run in the second game.
Senior third baseman Lexi Lennon also hit a home run in that game - a two-run shot that was her second of the season. She went 5-8 in the doubleheader with seven RBIs, five of them in the first game.
The Packers are currently 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Eastern Dakota Conference, which technically puts them in first since most teams have not been able to start their seasons.
They will host the Fargo North Spartans in a doubleheader tomorrow evening at Anderson Field. The first game will start at 5 p.m. They will then travel to Devils Lake on Friday for a 4:30 p.m. game.
