Packers soccer team wins rainy WF Invite

Despite Saturday’s West Fargo Invitational soccer tournament being cut short due to the elements, officials saw enough to award the tournament to the Packers, who earned 29 points in three games.

The tournament began Friday afternoon with the Packers earning an 8-0 victory over Mandan. Senior Abdi Gedi, juniorAkeem Smith and senior Zuheer Al-Abase each schored two goals in the game. Each of them also tallied an assist.

The Pack followed that performance with a 4-1 victory over Bismarck St. Marys on Saturday morning. Smith, Gedi and Al-Abase each added another goal to their totals.

In the afternoon, the Packers faced off against Crookston (Minn.) and built up a 7-0 lead before the game was called on account of rain. The West Fargo goals came from seven different players.

The 9-3-0 Packers, who are currently second in the EDC, will host Fargo North tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
