Packers start strong, fizzle in weekend volleyball tournament

West Fargo won all three of its matches during the first day of the East-West volleyball Invitational over the weekend in Bismarck, but dropped two out of three on the second day.

The Packers topped Minot, Mandan and Bismarck on the first day, winning seven of nine sets. On the next day, they bested Williston 2-1 before losing 3-0 to Bismarck Century, then 2-0 to Jamestown.

The Packers were led by senior libero JoLene Woodbury, recorded 21 saves, along with senior setter Andrea Klug, who tallied 57 saves and four aces. The team also got three kills from senior outside hitter Katelyn Jipson.

The Packers (4-2) will host the Fargo Shanley Deacons (3-3) tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
