Winter Days is just around the corner. With that news, the weather seems perfect for outdoor activity, at least for the time being, but a little bit more precipitation in the form of snow would be more than welcome so West Fargo Park District promoters can move ahead with plans for some of the events that require it. In particular, the popular snow golf tourney and the sleigh rides, the outcomes for which are presently undecided due to the absence of enough of that fluffy white stuff.
Recreation specialist Kim Wangler said the two events are still being planned as part of the scheduling but could be pulled if more snow doesn't materialize in the next week or so. Needless to say, she's hoping that possibility doesn't come to fruition.
This year's Winter Days will have its fair mix of something new with the first-time venue including the Polar Bear Pool Party at L.E. Elementary School, and the Holiday Bingo and Bag Book Sale at the West Fargo Public Library.
The annual Snow Flake Search is set to kick off the West Fargo Park District event today (Jan. 11) with other scheduled activities to begin Friday, Jan. 13 and continue through Saturday, Jan. 21.
Participants will hunt for five silver snowflakes hidden above ground at public locations to win prize gift packages valued at $225 or more that include: Snowflake A: Hornbacher's, Stars and Strikes Bowling, Happy Joe's, Furniture for Less, and All-Stop; Snowflake B: Cloud 9, Lucky's 13, Eagle Run Crossing, Goodfellas, and All-Stop; Snowflake C: Hornbacher's, Ruby Tuesday, Texas Roadhouse, Sandy's Donuts, and All-Stop; Snowflake D: Hornbacher's, Sooper Stop Spitfire, Sandy's Donuts, McDonalds and All-Stop; Snowflake E: Petro Serve USA, Red River Valley Fair, Fancy Paws Pet Salon, and All-Stop.
Clues and rules will be published in the West Fargo Pioneer and West Fargo News on Jan. 11 and Jan. 18; be posted at the main entrance windows of the West Fargo Park District office; and on the following websites: www.wfparks.org and www.westfargopioneer.com
Also returning for the second year will be the Winter Days Photo Contest where participants can show off their photography skills by entering their favorite pictures. Winners will receive a ribbon, photo prizes and the opportunity to have their photo featured on the front cover of the West Fargo Park District Activity Guide.
A winner will be chosen in each of five categories: best youth action for summer and winter activity photo, best scenic park photo for summer and winter, and most creative photo; with the top photos displayed at the West Fargo Public Library from Jan. 24-31.
Entry forms and rules are available on the park district website. Entries must be returned by Jan. 20 to the park district office or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Winter Days will be rounded out with a passel of other fun, family-oriented happenings including: the opening Winter Days party at the Cheney Middle School, open skate at the Veterans Memorial Arena, and the signature West Fargo's Best Chili Cook-off at the West Fargo VFW, as one of the concluding events.
A complete schedule of daily activities, as well as locations where they will be occurring is included in the special West Fargo Park District flyer inserted in this week's publications. A more detailed story will appear in next week's Pioneer and News.
Inquiries can be made or registrations for various events completed by calling the West Fargo Park District 433-5360 or more information is available by visiting their website at www.wfparks.org.
