Lisa was first diagnosed, Sept.12, 2011, with a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer called Triple Negative, Neuroendocrine Carcinoma. She was 46 when initially diagnosed and took a leave of absence to undergo a double mastectomy and begin a rigorous cycle of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Last April, she completed these treatments while continuing with physical therapy for lymphedema.

Unfortunately, on July 7, Lisa's PET scan showed that her cancer had returned; spreading to her liver. Soon after, she began another form of chemotherapy, with noted progress in shrinking the cancer. She will require ongoing treatment in order to maintain a cancer free status. It is unknown whether she will be able to return to teaching. Her husband, Mike, was also unemployed for several months during this past year after being laid off from his job. Lisa's family and friends are hosting a benefit to show support and to help Lisa and her family with accumulating, ongoing medical expenses.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event. A pasta dinner will be made available for a suggested donation of $10 per adult and $5 per child. Donations can also be made online at: www.dakmed.org/lendahand, click on Donate and enter gift amount next to the Lisa Jahnke Fund; or by mailing a cash or check donation payable to Lisa Jahnke Benefit, Bell State Bank, PO Box 10877, 51 N Broadway, Fargo, N.D. 58102 (or any Bell State Bank locations).
