Paul D. Johnston, 90, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, February 18, 2008, at St. Mary's Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes.
Paul Duane Johnston was born to Charles and Hattie (Brennan) Johnston on Jan. 16, 1918 in Ogema, where he was raised and educated. Paul married Audrey Sauve June 28, 1941 in Terre-bonne, Minn. He served with the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Following his dis-charge, he returned to Detroit Lakes, where he was employed with Standard Oil until his retire-ment in 1975.
Paul was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Holy Rosary Council Knights of Co-lumbus and Jess Omundson Post 1676 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed flying airplanes and ultralites with his son, Steve, hunting, buying new cars and tak-ing care of his car.
Paul is survived by his wife, Audrey Johnston of Detroit Lakes; a son, Steve (Kathy) Johnston of Hawley; a daughter, Sandra (Wade) Hopkins of Sugar Land, Texas; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a brother, Charles; and a sister, Bonita Landt.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 at Holy Rosary Church, Detroit Lakes; there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 5 p.m. and Parish Vigil at 7 p.m. in the church. The visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jerry Rogers officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, with Military Rites provided by Jess-Omundson Post 1676, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Detroit Lakes.
