Pioneer staff earns NDNA contest awards

The West Fargo Pioneer earned 16 awards, including five first place honors, at this North Dakota Newspaper Association Better Newspaper Contest. Awards were announced at the organization's annual convention in Dickinson last weekend.

The staff took first place awards for front page design excellence for the Pioneer, Special Advertising Section for the 2008 Calendar, and for Best Web site with Carrie Snyder and Jamie Grant designing the site. Karen Huber earned a first place editorial award for her piece on a golf course feasibility study issue "Math doesn't add up," and Sue Cwikla brought home a first place award for her feature series on the "Honor Flight."

Other awards included: West Fargo Pioneer staff, third place for overall design excellence and honorable mention for editorial page; Karen Huber, honorable mentions for business news reporting, Chamber unveils new logo, and feature reporting series, Kaseman children, mystery illness; Sue Cwikla, third place feature reporting, for Peterson loses arm; Paula Jensen, second places for informational graphics, fire prevention, section/feature fronts design excellence, eating well, and an honorable mention along with Will Foss for outdoors/sports, MSUM Dragon Swim School; Carrie Snyder, second place, for sports photo, Packer Hockey, and honorable mention for news photo, N.D. teacher of the year; and Jamie Grant, honorable mention for spot news photo, vehicle flare-up.
