Shawn Preabt has been honored by the West Fargo Exchange Club with their prestigious Exchangite of the Year designation. The announcement was made at the group's regular meeting June 27 at Speedway's Event Center by Exchange Club President Chris Heise, who commended Preabt for his efforts and contributions.
"Shawn is one person that if you give him a task, he takes it and runs with it," Heise said. "He doesn't ask how far to run, he just runs with it and does everything top notch."
A member of the West Fargo Exchange Club since 2008, Preabt has been active in a variety of roles promoting the organization, in particular the Community Service area, for which he has served as chairperson for the past couple of years continuing to do so at the present.
The duties of the position are numerous and have included recruiting volunteers to help deliver the Meals on Wheels program as well as personally delivering meals himself on behalf of Luther Family Buick GMC, Fargo, where he is employed as a controller. He has run with this project for the past couple of years and has constantly maintained a commitment from members offering to volunteer.
Preabt also organizes the clubs Book of Golden Deeds program from start to finish, which involves gathering the committee together, taking nominations, selecting an individual, and then following through with printing the program, inviting the guests and arranging speakers resulting in a very organized, well-planned event.
He also reaches out to the City of West Fargo annually seeking nominations for Volunteer Fireman of the Year and Police Officer of the Year, coordinating all of this with his committee in an effort to provide an excellent recognition program.
Preabt and Iva, his wife of 23 years, make their home in Fargo. They have a daughter, Haylee, who is a Pharmacy student at North Dakota State University, Fargo.
In any free time aside from work and Exchange Club endeavors, Preabt unwinds by bowling, biking, golfing or fishing.
Always a people person, Preabt's favorite quote seems to fit his demeanor well: "The best gift you can give someone is your time!" He said he definitely enjoys doing that with his fellow West Fargo Exchange Club members and is humbled by the Exchangite of the Year recognition.
"I am truly honored to be selected as the West Fargo Exchangite of the Year, "Preabt said. "This is a great organization with many great people I consider friends and mentors. I became a member of the West Fargo Exchange Club in 2008 with encouragement from Lars Dyrdahl and Brad Schmidt. It is truly a great way to serve the community and meet people!"
