Raymond Berg, 83, of Hawley, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2009 at his home at the Hawley Senior Living Center in Hawley, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Raymond was born the son of John and Julia (Skeim) Berg on May 11, 1925 in Ulen. He was raised in the Ulen-Twin Valley area, where he attended school and worked on the family farm. Ray entered the United States Army and served in Japan during World War II. After his discharge, he returned to the family farm.
Ray moved to Hillsboro, N.D., in February 1966 and married Barbara Power on March 19, 1966 in Hawley. They made their home in Hillsboro, where Ray worked for Farmer's Union Oil Company as a tire foreman, for 22 years. He retired in April 1987, and then worked part time for the Hillsboro Park Board, the Traill County Water Board and Olsen's Hardware.
Ray loved to go for walks and speak Norwegian. His beloved wife, Barbara passed away on Jan. 26, 2003. In October 2005, Ray moved to Hawley Senior Living.
Surviving Ray are his children, Sharlene Rohrich of Moorhead, Steve Berg of Jamestown, N.D., Sherry (Jesse) Ford of West Fargo and Stacy (Scott) Bauer of Bismarck, N.D.; six grandchildren; his sister, Gladys (Ilo) Bentley of Hawley; his brother, Judien Berg of Hawley; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, Barbara, Ray was preceded in death by his brothers, Elmer, Odin, and Harvey; and his sister, Evelyn.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 17 at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo, followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the start of services in the church on Saturday.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18 at Hillsboro United Parish UCC-UMC in Hillsboro, with burial following at Riverside Cemetery in Hillsboro.
