Talk about going out on a high note.

Both West Fargo High School varsity and junior varsity Packatahna teams were named Grand Champions during the United Performing Association's AmeriCup Competition on Feb. 25-27 in Minneapolis.

In addition, the varsity team placed first in Pom, tied for second in Kick, third in Jazz and fifth in Hip Hop.

The JV team brought home first in Pom, first in Jazz, first in Kick and first in Hip Hop in their division.

Varsity and JV dancers also competed individually in kick, leap, small group, and solo competitions.

Dana Murray placed second in Senior Kick, Amy Matzke third, and Jordan Reznecheck sixth. Elizabeth Kossan placed seventh in Senior Leap. Madison Schommer took first in Junior Leap, Brooke Freeman fourth, and Taylor Vasek and Abby Hagle tied for eighth place.

In Junior Kick, first-place honors went to Alexis Cowley, second to Brooke Freeman, Katie Groth and Amanda Marinucci tied for third, sixth went to September Olsen, seventh to Taylor Ostern, eighth to Kylee Walsvik, and Ashley Gerdes finished ninth.

In the Junior Jump Category, second place went to Madison Beyer, and fifth to Abby Hagle.

Caylie Holland took first, Madison Hanson second, and McKenzie Pearson third in the Teen Kick Division. Kaysha Sadek placed second in Teen Leap. Amber and Ashley Swart brought home fourth place with their Junior Small Group routine, while Brittin Zimmerman, Taylor Vasek and September Olsen took fifth in the same category. Jordan Reznecheck, Elizabeth Kossan, Elli Smiler, and Jorden Troi competed solos.

Varsity team members are Elizabeth Kossan, Amy Matzke, Dana Murray, Jordan Reznecheck, Madison Beyer, Alexis Cowley, Brooke Freeman, Ashley Gerdes, Courtney Grove, Brianna Gratz, Katie Groth, Madison Schommer, Amber Swart, Ashley Vangerud, Abby Hagle, Madison Novacek, Shantell Olson, Taylor Ostern, Ashley Swart and Caylie Holland. The Varsity Packatahnas are coached by Jordan Jost, Gretchen Stafslien, and Kallista Nilson.

Junior varsity team members include Amanda Marinucci, Elli Smiler, Taylor Vasek, Kylee Walsvik, Madison Adams, September Olsen, Brittin Zimmerman, Abby Brown, Madison Hansen, McKenzie Pearson, Kaysha Sakek, and Jorden Troie. They are coached by Hillary Ehlen and Natalie Burr.

The West Fargo Elite dance team, a group of 14 sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders, are coached by Jordan Jost and Claire Moltzan. They placed fifth in the Junior Jazz Division and sixth in Junior Pom. Heather Boerger, Samantha Heinen, Drew Mapes, and BreAnna Rohrich brought home fourth place in Teen Small Group. Other Elite team members are Alexis Huseby, Breanna Kaul, Jill Schulz, Julia Dywer, Laikyn Pfiefle, Lindsay Bachand, Marisa Enderson, Saige Fredericks, Sydney Lund, and Tara Peters.

Head varsity Packatahna coach Jost was honored with a Coach of the Year Award at the UPA AmeriCup.

The varsity Packatahnas also placed third with their High Kick Routine at the Universal Dance Associations National Dance Team Championship in Orlando on Feb. 5-6.
