The Red River Valley Fair Association has released attendance records for the annual Fair which just wrapped up July 10-18.

Despite difficult economic times, attendance at this year's Fair totaled 125,000 plus attendees, a significant increase over last year, fair organizers announced Wednesday. Just as important, the fair produced more revenue in key categories compared with last year which indicates a profitable outcome.

"Considering the extraordinarily difficult economic times our society has been faced with for many months now, we are pleased with our 2009 preliminary results," said Bryan Schulz, General Manager for the Red River Valley Fair Association. "We focused on family-friendly activities and created numerous new value-based programs to ensure we would deliver our promise to the customers that the event would be affordable to all, and they responded enthusiastically."

In 2008, a total of 90,000 to 100,000 fair-goers showed up at the West Fargo based Fair. Attendance for 2009 was within the range of 100,000 and 125,000 that the Association planned and budgeted for," officials stated.

The Red River Valley Fair runs as a non-profit under the name of Red River Valley Fair Association, with their fiscal year ending March 31, 2010.

Heading into the Fair this year, officials said it was a tough year for finding new sponsors. In addition, local companies cut back on their sponsorship dollars. Schulz and others said they tried to focus on marketing and strategy for this year's fair. For example, spending on talent for on-ground stages was offset by local artists performing for no charge. Grandstand Entertainers were new up-and-coming country acts which are obtained at a lower cost to the Association. The Mega Pass ride ticket was incorporated for the first time in 2009 with over 4,200 patrons purchasing the week long all inclusive pass.

Plans for the 2010 Fair scheduled for July 9-17 have already been implemented. For more information go to www.redrivervalleyfair.com.
