Registration open for WF summer camps

Registration currently is open for student athletes wishing to participate in any number of summer camps available through the West Fargo School District.

The activities vary, and opportunity abounds for students of all ages. Here is a brief look at what West Fargo has to offer. For a complete overview of each camp, as well as registration forms and additional information, check out www.west-fargo.k12.nd.us/district/activities/.

• Packer Football Camp, July 26-30: This camp will teach techniques for each position on the football field. Fees are $35 for grades 4-8 (football included), and $35 for grades 9-12 (T-shirt included). Camp times will be: ninth grade, 8-9:10 a.m.; 10th grade, 9:15-10:25 a.m.; 11th-12th grade, 10:30-11:50 a.m.; grades 4-5, noon-1:10 p.m.; grades 6-8, 1:15-2:25 p.m. Make checks payable to: Packer Football Camp, 621 Cottonwood Ct., West Fargo, ND 58078. • Girls Basketball Camps, June 1-25: Five grade-specific camps will be held throughout the month of June. Two camps are available at the WFHS gym for girls in 10th-12th grade: Camp 1 is June 1-3, and Camp 2 is June 8-10. Both cost $40. Camp 3 is June 14-17 in the Cheney Middle School Gym, and is split into two time frames for grades 3-5 ($50), and grades k-2 ($30). Camp 4 is June 21-25 at the WFHS gym, and also is split into two time frames for grades 8-9 and 6-7. Cost is $40. The Pack Attack League for grades 8-12 will be held Jun 7, 14, 21, and 28 at WFHS gym, and the cost is $20. For questions, contact varsity girls basketball coach Barb Metcalf at 499-1848.

• Greenline Hockey Camp, May 31-July 1: There will be five weeks of hockey training under the guidance of varsity co-coaches Tim Capouch and Troy Miller, at Vets II Arena for both high school and bantam players. Each group will alternate between late and early ice times. Only 25 skaters will be allowed per group. • Packer Power Camp, June-August: Coached by Rollie Swedberg, Leah Swedberg and Ed Mitchell, the agility, speed and strength summer camp is designed to improve athleticism and address the sport-specific needs of West Fargo athletes in grades 9-12 for the 2010-11 sports season. Camp days and times will vary throughout its entirety, and the locations will be the WFHS weight room or track and athletic fields. Cost is $100 for nine weeks no matter how many days you choose to work out. • Packer Preview Youth Camp, June-July: Under the same watchful eyes as the Packer Power Camp, this form, footwork and fitness camp is designed to improve athleticism of future West Fargo athletes in grades 7-8. Sessions are limited to 60 athletes, and will vary according to gender: girls will meet Mondays and Wednesdays, and boys will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays. The facilities will be the WFHS weight room, and track and athletic fields. Session I is June 7-July 1, and costs $60. Session II is July 7-July 29. For Session I and II the cost is $100. • Boys and Girls Tennis Camps, June-July: Three camps for varying skill levels are offered for girls and boys in grades 7-12: Advanced Tournament Camp (by invitation only), $30 every two weeks; Advanced Camp (varsity), $40 every two weeks; and Intermediate Camp (junior varsity), $25 every two weeks. Private tennis lessons will be held in June and July and are $20 for 45 minutes per individual, and $30 for 1 hour for two students. Tennis camp will be held at West Fargo High School. Participants can choose from three sessions lasting two weeks: Session 1, June 7-17; Session 2, June 21-July 1; and Session 3, July 5-8 and July 19-22. • Packer Volleyball Camps, June-July: This camp will teach basic skills, team concepts, leadership and sportsmanship, and participants will receive a T-shirt if they turn in their registration form by June 25. There will be six sessions separated by grade on July 19-22 at West Fargo High School and Cheney Middle School: Session 1, grades 10-12, $50, WFHS; Session 2, grade 9, $50, CMS; Session 3, grades 3-4, $25, WFHS; Session 4, grades 1-2, $25, WFHS; Session 5, grades 5-6, $25, CMS; and session 6, grades 7-8, $35, CMS. A volleyball skills camp for grades 7-12 also will be available at WFHS through June and July. The cost is $20.
