Roger Jacobsen

Roger Jacobsen, 62, Fargo, formerly West Fargo, passed away Monday, November 9, 2009, in his home.

Roger Leland Jacobsen was born July 25, 1947 in Fargo to Leland and Luella (Thomson) Jacobsen. He was raised in Luverne, N.D. and graduated from Luverne High School in 1966. Roger entered the United States Army in August of 1968 and was deployed to Vietnam. He served in combat, receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star before his discharge in August 1970. Upon returning to Luverne, he attended Wahpeton State School of Science for one year. He worked eight years for the Fargo Post Office and then worked as a mail carrier for the West Fargo Postal Service for twenty five years before retiring in 2003.

He was very active in the West Fargo VFW Post 7564. Roger held many offices in the club, including past Post Commander, past Cooties Seam Squirrel, Color Guard member, and volunteer of many man hours. He is also a member of the AmVets. Roger was very proud of his country for which he served.

Roger enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, softball and traveling. He enjoyed life, living it to the fullest, and will always be remembered with a smile on his face, his willingness to help others, and his favorite saying, "Ya, Right."

Roger is survived by his son, Chad (Shannyn) Jacobsen, West Fargo; daughter, Traci (Brian) Jacobson, West Fargo; granddaughter, Addyson Grace Jacobson, West Fargo; sister, Nancy (Don) Leadbetter, Ottawa, Kan.; Roger's special friend and caregiver, Laurie "Lulu" Tostenson; four nieces, Karen, Brandi, Dawn and Kari Leadbetter of Ottawa, Kan.; four nephews, Terry, Darin, Kevin and Jason Leadbetter, Ottawa, Kan. and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to have memorials sent to the West Fargo VFW Post 7564, Fargo Veterans Hospital or Hospice of the Red River Valley, Fargo.

Visitation and prayer services were held on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, in West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, November 12, 2009, in Faith Lutheran Church, West Fargo. Burial was at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, Mandan, N.D. on Friday, November 13, 2009.
