She attended country school and then was married at a young age. After her children were born, she and her family moved to Sunnyside, Wash., returning to Detroit Lakes in 1946. They then lived in Riverside and Pamona, Calif., where they operated a concessions business in the Los Angeles County Federal Courts Building until retiring in 1977 and returning to Minnesota.

Ruth was a longtime member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, serving her church and community in various capacities. In later years, Ruth made her home at the Lamplighter Manor and because of health needs moved to Emmanuel Nursing Home in 2003.

Surviving Ruth are her three children, including sons Syvert Halgrimson of Pueblo, Colo., and Eugene Halgrimson of Joshua Tree, Calif., and a daughter, Roselie Schroeder of Detroit Lakes; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers; three sisters; three daughters-in-law; and one son-in-law.

There was a time of remembrance held for Ruth at the Seventh Day Adventist Church worship service on Saturday, March 1. Her granddaughter, Tari is entrusted to her remains. The family requests that memorials be sent to Hospice of the Red River Valley or other charity of choice. West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes is in charge of arrangements.
