Safety, responsibility and youth shooting sports

The 2008 Fall Youth Shooting Sports program teaches youth how to be safely involved in a shooting activity, helping them understand and promote the safe, responsible and ethical use of firearms under the direction of certified shooting sports instructors. This program is offered by the Cass County 4-H Youth Development division of the NDSU Extension Service.

A hands-on training series in the following shooting sport disciplines is being offered this fall: shotgun/trapshooting, rifle and muzzleloading. All classes will be held at the 4-H Practice Range near Durbin. The program is open to all youth ages 10 and older.

The Introduction to Trap Shooting series for beginners is a program designed to teach the fundamentals of safe and successful shotgun shooting. Shotgun knowledge, the basics of shotgun safety and proper shotgun shooting form and trap shooting are taught. The series will be held September 9 and 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. with advance registration needed by September 3. The cost is $20.00.

The .22 Rifle Shooting three-week series teaches safe shooting, techniques and sportsmanship. The series will be held September 20, 27 and October 4 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. with advance registration needed by September 12. The cost is $15.00.

The Muzzleloading three-week series teaches proper loading, firing techniques, the different parts of muzzleloading firearms, taking care of your gun, safety and range discipline will be covered during this training. The series will be held October 11, 18 and 25 with advance registration needed by October 3. The cost is $15.00.
