One of West Fargo's most decorated wrestlers has decided to start his collegiate career with Minnesota.
On Thursday, April 29, senior Scott Schiller signed a national letter of intent with the Gophers.
"I'm really excited about the opportunity to wrestle at Minnesota," Schiller said. "I feel that I will be able to reach my goals, and be the best wrestler I can be with the Gophers."
Schiller will join fellow Packer Tyler Lehmann, who signed with Minnesota last year. Schiller is a three-time North Dakota state champion and was named the 2010 Class A Mr. Wrestler.
"We are excited to see Scott continue his wrestling career at Minnesota," West Fargo coach Kayle Dangerud said. "He has worked extremely hard to get to the level he is at today. We are thrilled to see him and Tyler in the same college room as they work toward their goals of being national champions."
This season, Schiller capped his prep career with a 215-pound state title, and helped his team end Bismarck's state dual streak. His previous state titles came at 189 pounds as a junior, and 171 pounds as a sophomore. Schiller was 43-0 on the year, bringing his career record to 165-27.
He also recently was ranked as the No. 4 senior in the nation at 215 pounds by Wrestling USA Magazine.
"This is also proof to our young West Fargo wrestlers that, with hard work, it is possible for them to wrestle for some of the best college programs in the country," Dangerud said.
