Schmidt signs with Williston State
Kolby Schmidt, a 2010 graduate from West Fargo High School, recently signed a letter of intent to play baseball on a scholarship for Williston (N.D.) State in 2011. His primary role will be pitching, though he also will play outfield.
According to coach Shawn Cote, the Tetons are in a predominantly left-handed league, and Schmidt's left-handed accuracy will be an asset. Williston State is coming off one of its best seasons to date, in which the Tetons won the Region 13 Championship to advance to the National Tournament-qualifying District Tournament.
Schmidt finished his varsity regular season batting .222 with eight hits, seven runs and two RBIs. He currently is playing with the West Fargo Legion Baseball team, however online statistics have not been updated since late June.
Kolby Schmidt is the son of Kevin and Debby Schmidt, and plans to major in business management.
