School Board addresses communication problem

Communication, or the lack thereof, is a problem in West Fargo schools.

At least that is what the result from a recent survey of West Fargo employees showed after it was presented in August to the West Fargo School Board. Superintendent Dr. Dana Diesel Wallace noted at the School Board meeting Monday, Sept. 28, that proactive steps are now being taken to evaluate the communication situation.

A preliminary rough draft of possible solutions already has been written by two district employees.

Wallace noted other districts would be assessed to see what best practices are being used to aid communication in hopes the West Fargo School District may evaluate those methods.

West Fargo also is losing a fourth grade teacher at South Elementary.

Mandy Couture's letter of resignation was granted by unanimous vote at Monday's board meeting. Her husband, an Air Force pilot currently stationed at Grand Forks Air Force Base, was recently reassigned to Las Vegas. Couture's last day will be Friday, Oct. 9.

Finally, the board passed allocation of $10,000 for the Youth Entrepreneurship Program at the North Dakota State University Research & Technology Park. The funding will be used as seeding money to help the program get off the ground. It was noted that the Fargo School Board also has allotted money for the program. The course uses learning tools such as special projects and virtual incubators to help facilitate student entrepreneurship.
